Theoretical material stanene could improve chip efficiency

A group of theoretical physicists from U.S. Department of Energy's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University are investigating how stanene, a material that could be made from a single layer of tin atoms, can potentially increase the efficiency of computer chips. By replacing traditional copper wiring with stanene and fluorine atoms, researchers say they could reduce both power consumption and heat production in microprocessors. Read more
