Time Warner Cable looking at fiber options

Time Warner Cable, which showed some growth fourth quarter, but also recorded a big writedown, has issued a request for information that reportedly seeks gather info about new fiber-to-the-home architectures such as RF over Glass. TWC has not offered details, but Light Reading's Cable Digital News reports that sources familiar with the RFI told the publication that the RFI seeks details about RFoG, Ethernet PON, 10-Gig EPON, as well as a "Docsis management plane." 

The cable TV company may be eyeing new infrastructure to support new market roll-outs, as well as business services, a sector that many cable firms are looking to exploit, and which they have to succeed in to fully compete with telcos. With DOCSIS 3.0 in the works ar many cable firms and now considerations of new fiber technologies on the minds of a few, telcos are not the only ones busy with network upgrades.
