Top telcos waver on financial outlooks

Not long ago, and maybe still, the favored cliché on CNBC trading-day telecasts was "catch the falling knife," as in, "No one wants to catch the falling knife and call a bottom in the housing market crisis." As Light Reading points out today in its "Carrier Scorecard," the favored cliché among telecom industry financial executives right now might be "closely evaluating the situation," as in, we don't see current consumer market softness, but we're closely evaluating the situation." Do carrier execs know something we don't? Are familiar patterns emerging at all, or are they just waiting to see is off-hand remarks and rumors of consumer market slowdown actually manifest themselves as reality?
