tw telecom enhances network presence in New York, western Connecticut

tw telecom is continuing with its northeast U.S. network expansion effort, announcing that it is expanding its network and product suite in the New York Hudson Valley and western Connecticut regions.

The service provider will introduce service to enterprises and data center customers in Westchester and Fairfield counties, The Bronx, as well as Greenwich and Stamford, Conn.

Overseeing this expansion effort is Carl Bonitz, who will now serve as vice president and general manager for tw telecom's Westchester market. Bonitz will supervise and support the growth of this newly expanded market and maintaining revenue, operation plans and lead generation programs.

"As a result of strong growth here in the Hudson Valley, western Connecticut and The Bronx, this expansion is being driven by new and existing customer demand," Bonitz said.

Expanding its network in New York and Connecticut is part of a broader national multi-market effort to expand its metro fiber footprint throughout the country this year. Part of this initiative includes tw telecom entering into four new markets--Salt Lake City, Richmond, Va., Boston and Philadelphia--with plans to enter into one additional new market--Cleveland--later this year.

Besides New York and Connecticut, the service provider announced this week that it expanded its network reach into San Diego by extending service into the various business parks located in Carlsbad.

As of the end of June, tw telecom's fiber network was connected 21,300 commercial buildings, including about 500 third-party data centers

These network expansions will also make tw telecom an even more attractive asset to Level 3 Communications, which is in the process of purchasing the service provider.
