Undersea operators repair damaged cables

Internet service in India and the Middle East that was knocked out by cuts to undersea fiber cables within the last two weeks was scheduled to be restored this weekend. FLAG Telecom, a unit of India's Reliance Communications said two of its cables cut last week were repaired and traffic was up and running. Meanwhile, another damaged cable owned by India's VSNL reportedly was set to be repaired by Sunday. The FLAG cable allegedly were accidentally severed by a giant abandoned ship anchor. Since the cable cuts occurred within the last two weeks, there has been some online buzz about the possibility that the cables were cut by terrorists, but TeleGeography analyst Stephan Beckert told CNN International that was highly unlikely.
