U.S. broadband speeds increase 27 percent, but EU countries lead growth

The United States ranks ninth in average broadband connection speeds worldwide, Akamai said in its quarterly State of the Internet report. However, the connection speeds in the U.S. grew 27 percent compared to the first quarter of 2012 and 7.4 percent in Q1 2013. The Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark currently lead in quarter-by-quarter speed growth, while the Czech Republic has the highest year-over-year growth of 34 percent. Still, average broadband speeds for these countries fall below the "high broadband" speed threshold of 10 Mbps. Report
