Veraz adds MGN architecture to NGN/IMS mix

Tools

Veraz Networks has introduced what it calls a Multimedia Generation Network, building on some of the concepts and principals of next-generation network architectures and the IP Multimedia Subsystem standard, with the intention of giving carriers a possibly-clearer evolutionary path than either the bogged-down NGN or IMS may be capable of delivering at the moment. The MGN outlines media, control and service delivery layers tied together by a management overlay. Veraz, not surprisingly, has products well-positioned for each of these layers, but another observation to be gleaned from this announcement is that vendors are starting to realize that NGN and IMS, while valuable and well-meaning, have been over-appropriated and pulled in so many different directions that carriers may have trouble making sense of it all.
