Verizon Business enhances PBX flexibility

Technology capable of enabling mobile extensions to wireline PBX equipment for businesses is not necessarily new, and Verizon Business already offered hardware to businesses to support the capability. However, the carrier announced a mobile PBX offering at the CTIA's Wireless 2008 convention this week that could represent a turning point for such technology, as well as how major telcos address rapidly-evolving business and enterprise needs.

The carrier is using technology from Research In Motion's Ascendent Systems unit to allow business users to add a BlackBerry device extension from their business PBX. That means ringing flexibility, desk phone voice mail access, scheduling and other capabilities integrated through the business PBX can now be had on Blackberry devices through the new server/software system.
