Verizon Business extends cloud back-up to PCs, new markets

As carriers continue to succeed with managed services and corporate customers look to them for more support, Verizon Business announced that it is extending its Verizon Remote Backup and Restore service to enterprise PCs. The U.S. carrier also said it is pursuing a global expansion of the service that will start in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

As more corporate users look into the value of cloud computing, this might be considered a telco take on one aspect of cloud computing--automated cloud back-up to carrier data centers. It also allows Verizon Business another way to add value to its enterprise package of offerings at a time when service spending by enterprise customers has slowed.

The carrier, according to a Telephony story, uses a "de-duplication" process to automatically differentiate new data from old when looking at what to store, thereby saving bandwidth and storage space.
