Verizon Business to serve Army's Reserve Command Network

Tools

Verizon Business' experience in serving the Army's IP networking needs (it has been providing private IP services to the Army since 2004 over its vBNS+ network) continues to pay off as the service provider announced this week that it has won a contract to manage and secure the U.S. Army Reserve Command's IP network. Under the new agreement, one that includes one year and four optional one-year extensions, Verizon Business will manage and secure all of the agency's network, including all of its network components such as routers, LAN switches, firewalls and PBX equipment.

The Army's Reserve Command Network, which links 950 sites and 55,000 users, will be managed from Verizon Business' Government Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC) in Ashburn, Va. Verizon opened the GNOSC in 2006 to address its federal government customer's unique security and operational requirements. Along with providing network management and security services, Verizon Business will provide professional services and network monitoring to enable the Army to stay in compliance with its information security guidelines that govern its network environment, software and hardware.
