Verizon Business wins $50M Australian DoD contract

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is taking its government services experience down under to upgrade the Australian Department of Defense's communications network.

Set to be delivered through a five-year, AUD 50 million (USD 54.7 million) contract agreement, Verizon will provide the Australian DoD with a fully managed, dual Internet gateway solution and professional services support.

The new network will provide a link to the department's 110,000 employees, other government agencies, industry partners and the general public.

What stands out about the deployment with the Australian DoD is that the service provider is giving the agency the ability to not only get full visibility into network usage and costs, but also to adapt to new functions and expansion initiatives as needed. Built with the notion of maintaining network uptime, each gateway will be stored in a separate geographically diverse Verizon data center location.
