Verizon considers CableCard security

Tools

Verizon Communications is said to be working with the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solution on an adaptation of the cable TV industry's CableCard set-top box security protocol for its own FiOSTV services. Though Verizon offers cable-like MPEG-based video, which would conform to CableCard, it also offers IP-based video-on-demand, for which there is no set-top security feature.

The Federal Communications Commission requires that Verizon have set-top security for high-definition video and DVR feature by July of next year.
