Verizon CTO eyes IMS, FMC

Tools

Verizon Communications CTO Mark Wegleitner, speaking at the Telephony LIVE event in Dallas this week, said the carrier believes that IP Multimedia Subsystem efforts are complimentary with the Web 2.0 evolution. That view goes against recent, increasingly-widespread criticism that IMS has been a disappointment, and that Web 2.0 efforts have begun to render IMS less relevant. This is sure to create more fodder for critics of both camps--if there is any high-tech trend more enigmatic than IMS, it's Web 2.0.

Meanwhile, Wegleitner said the telco continues to look at different technology options for fixed-mobile convergence, including femtocells and dual-mode phones.
