CWA/IBEW flyer on DC streets: 'Your Verizon Service May be Affected'

CWA/IBWA "Verizon Service" flyerTurning up the heat on Verizon, union members handed out CWA/IBEW-prepared fliers warning "Your Verizon Service May be Affected. **Customer Service Alert**" on the streets of downtown Washington D.C. Wednesday around 12:30 ET. The fliers warned customers their service may be interrupted if Verizon management does not reach an amenable compromise on a proposed increase in the cost of employee health benefits.

Customers are asked to contact Verizon CEO Ivan Seidelberg's office to urge him to "agree to a fair contract."  The flier says Verizon's top five executives made $82 million and the company posted profits of $5.5 billion last year, making the company's position that present employee health coverage has become too expensive untenable.

The flier advised customers a potential strike would continue until a fair contract is agreed upon.

Right on CWA! If only more workers would have the courage to stand up to these greedy companies

The greedy unions are losing their stake rapidly. First the UAW, and soon CWA. Walk if you are gonna walk. I'll believe it when I see it. The union has already sold you out. Then just want access to the non-union protion of verizon. More dues, more millions for the union. Wake up before it's too late.

Unions exist soley because of corporate greed, the goal of all corporations is to make more money, all other claims are smoke and mirrors. It has become increasingly obvious that they have no real concern for the health and welfare of their dedicated employees. Look at how Verizon has treated the non-union employees. When the non-union employees hired on with the company, they were promised Medical, Pensions and other benifits that would carry them through their golden years, this, in many cases was the only reason people excepted positions with the company. Then after giving the best years of their life, they are told that they are not really "entitled" to these benifits. While they may have found a "loophole" to get out of their contractual obligation making the move legally ok, it is still ethically uneceptable. The very reason that unions are here, because if they were not, the whole workforce would be getting trated like they treat management (with contempt). And they wonder why no one is very enthusiatic about supporting them? Good luck with your contract, at least you still have some of what you were promised when you hired on, and deserve it. Do not worry about management wanting to take your jobs, they will only show up because they are forced to. from another abused Manegement employee

Hey there, if you're that ABUSED at Verizon. Quit. It is your choice.Unions are not the answer.Unions protect the slackers and those who have figured out how to work the system.Unions have been dying since the 80's. So abused management employee,do you really want the union to know what your benefits really are??Quit crying and put up or move on.

The union has already sold these guys out. The union wants access to the non-union workers of verizon. More union dues, more money for the union. If they were gonna walk, it would have happened by now. If anyone recalls the outcome of the last UAW strike, the workers got the shaft. The union got a ton of money to manage UAW healthcare. Can't blame GM when the union starts pleading poverty and cutting benefits. CWA has hundreds of millions of dollars, and verizon has billions. DO you think either is working for the little guy? I hope that I am wrong about this but..... The unions are not relevent anymore.Clock stoppage and working without a contract doesn't sound like a fierce lion. The union is using you like a little red shirted army of chess pieces. The current union guys will sell out the retirees and the new hires in a heartbeat. When it comes right down to it, its every man for himself. That is why socialism never really works.

This flyer is ridiculous. By airing dirty laundry and scaring off new and existing customers, the union members are putting their own jobs at risk. Not very smart.

last gasp efforts by a desperate union. They know Verizons got them right where they want them. Walk already, so Verizon can fore your lazy asses.
