Verizon enhances cloud purchasing experience with new marketplace

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is looking to help make the cloud purchasing process easier for its business customers with its Verizon Cloud Marketplace.

Customers will be able to access pre-built cloud-based services from top suppliers, including AppDynamics, Hitachi Data Systems, Juniper Networks, PfSense and Tervela, via a new online storefront. Each of these vendors will provide a mix of security, troubleshooting and cloud migration services.

Targeting enterprise customers already using Verizon's cloud service, the Cloud Marketplace provides a common spot to access software-based cloud resources that are certified to operate in Verizon's cloud environments.

By working with Verizon, businesses' IT departments won't have to take time to configure, deploy and fine-tune applications. Businesses that use Verizon Cloud for their workloads now have convenient and flexible self-service access to applications for big-data management, security, networking and software development.

Verizon will complement the solutions in the storefront with its own mix of cloud onboarding professional consulting services.

The Cloud Marketplace is currently available with public cloud and virtual private cloud-reserved performance deployments. Over the coming months, Verizon said it will roll out additional third-party virtual appliance and software-as-a-service applications, and new features, including expanded support for cloud deployments, billing and pricing model enhancements, and support and self-service options.

Cloud overall is becoming a larger part of Verizon's wireline revenue stream.

While enterprise revenues continue to be hampered by legacy declines and slower spending, the service provider reported that during the third quarter, strategic services like cloud and Ethernet rose 1.0 percent year-over-year to $2.1 billion.
