Verizon expands FiOS presence in Central NY

Tools

While Verizon has been waging a war against Cablevision in New York City--targeting Multi Dwelling Units with its Fiber to the Premise-based FiOS service--its New York FTTP ambitions have extended far beyond the Big Apple. Now, Verizon is taking on Time Warner Cable in Central New York with an eight region, 50,000-home FiOS roll out. Arguing it has a better package than Time Warner Cable's "old-fashioned cable TV," Verizon will bring the FiOS triple play package to segments of Clay, East Syracuse, North Syracuse, Cicero, DeWitt, Salina, Camillus and Fleming. During the past two years, Verizon says it has spent over $1 billion upgrading its network in New York's upstate regions.

If it gets the necessary franchise agreements in place, Verizon will extend FiOS to about 12,000 additional homes by the end of October. Looking forward, Verizon wants to make the FiOS service available to about 100,000 homes in Central New York. By offering the triple play package at an introductory $79.99 ($109.99 after the initial period), Verizon has priced its FiOS offering competitively. Comparatively, Time Warner Cable's 'All the Best' and 'All the Best triple-play' packages are slightly more expensive at $114.00 and $99.00 a month for the first 12 months.
