Verizon extends FiOS presence into five additional Mass. towns

Tools

Verizon's FiOS growth may have slowed a bit during the third quarter, yet the service provider continues to expand the reach of the service in its Massachusetts market.

Joining the list of communities in Verizon's latest FiOS drive are Billerica, Fitchburg, Milford, North Attleborough and Westford. In addition, Verizon said it will also be launching FiOS service in Chelmsford, Mass., another affluent town that resides near Westford, Mass. These new communities are among the 104 Mass. communities that either now can get the ILEC's fiber-based TV and Internet service or it will be available soon.

Seeing that Mass. is primarily Comcast country, Verizon is taking every chance it can to highlight its claim that it has better programming than the cable giant with 600 total channels, including 123 HD channels. Regardless of how many communities or channels it has, Verizon's ongoing movement into the Massachusetts at the very least will drive Comcast and other resident cable companies to continue to offer customer incentives (bundled pricing) and upgrading their networks to DOCSIS 3.0 to keep apace of new video competitors such as Verizon.
