Verizon: FiOS may move faster than planned

Verizon Communications president and COO Denny Strigl said that Verizon could end up reaching more than the 18 million households it hopes to reach with its FiOS broadband network by 2010. He said at an investor conference that FiOS should touch 12 million households by the end of this year, with 3 million added each of the next two years. However, Verizon's recent foray into the multi-dwelling unit market could provide a previously unexpected boost to its numbers.

Innovations such as bendable fiber have helped Verizon make a run at the MDU market, and the company has been making progress with efforts to provide competitive TV services in New York City.
