Verizon promotes Eric Cevis as its new global wholesale chief

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is passing the leadership torch in its global wholesale division by promoting Eric Cevis as the unit's new president. Prior to his new role, he most recently served as the senior vice president of sales for Verizon's Americas wholesale sales unit.

He replaces Michael Millegan, who retired from Verizon last year after spending 33 years with the company and its predecessor GTE.

As president of global wholesale, Cevis will oversee an international cross-functional team including sales, marketing and operational support.

The telco's global wholesale unit supports a wide mix of service providers including wireless service providers, IXCs, CLECs, ISPs, ILEC, MSO/cable and other telecommunications companies, as well as aggregators, resellers and content providers.

A 27-year company veteran, Cevis has held a number of business development and sales roles at Verizon and its predecessor Bell Atlantic.

As vice president of Verizon Enhanced Communities, he oversaw the delivery of bundled services to entire communities, including a mix of Greenfield developments, and the retrofitting of existing multi-dwelling units (MDUs) and access agreements for small/medium business multi-tenant units.

Cevis will face the near-term challenge of reversing the legacy TDM revenue tide with next-gen Ethernet and IP services. In the fourth quarter of 2013, wholesale service revenue declined 7.8 percent to $1.63 billion due to ongoing declines in TDM-based service transport services.
