Verizon to renew MDU fiber push this year

Verizon Communications would like to improve its fiber service rate in the multi-dwelling unit market. Though the company passed 2.1 million MDUs with fiber last year, its network was capable of serving just 400,000 of them. Verizon technology director Vincent O'Byrne tells Telephony that innovations in optical network terminals and in areas like Corning's Clearcurve bendable fiber will help the carrier bring down the cost of addressing the MDU market. Though the MDU market rules are loosening up, the market remains a cable TV stronghold, and thus a top target for large telcos as they look to have further success.
