Verizon's speedy DSL reaches 3.4 million customers

Tools

FiOS may be the core of Verizon’s long term growth strategy, but the telco hasn’t written off DSL as a money maker yet. The company yesterday said its upgraded DSL now reached some 3.4 million customers, up from just 400,000 when the 7.1 Mbps download-capable service was announced in January.

Verizon said it’ll charge $42.99 per month for the service and require a one-year contract. AT&T and Qwest feature DSL speeds of 10 Mbps and 20 Mbps, respectively. Verizon has added 4,000 new DSL customers during the first three months of the year, but said it had added 262,000 FiOS users during the same period.
