VimpelCom acquires Golden Telecom

Russian mobile carrier giant VimpelCom is acquiring Russian wireline telco Golden Telecom in a deal worth about $4.3 billion. The acquisition had been rumored for some time, and actually was prematurely reported by some media outlets just a few weeks ago. Both companies are experiencing huge growth, and have fuel increasing investor interested in Russia's telecom industry and the country overall. Golden Telecom specifically has pushed aggressively into business markets and recently announced an IPTV expansion plan.
