Vivendi SFR bids for more of Neuf Cegetel

Tools

France's Vivendi said that its SFR mobile unit, which already owns about 40 percent of broadband carrier Neuf Cegetel, is bidding to acquire another 29.5 percent of the company currently owned by the Louis Dreyfus commodities firm. After it completes that deal, SFR plans to launch a public offer for the remaining 30 percent of the carrier. These deals would assign Neuf Cegetel of total value of about $11 billion.

Neuf Cegetel has been one of the top fiber-based carriers in a hotly competitive French broadband market, and this deal would follow a recent trend among European mobile players having an interest in acquiring wireline assets.
