West Virginia protests Frontier's Verizon acquisition

Frontier's impending acquisition of Verizon's rural lines continues to come under fire. Although it did get approvals from three states recently, West Virginia has joined Oregon and Washington State in protesting the deal. West Virginia's Public Service Commission's (PSC) staff and Consumer Advocate Division both recommended that the state reject the deal from going forward in filings with the state PSC.

Similar to officials in Oregon and Washington State, West Virginia's consumer advocate Byron Harris is worried that Frontier lacks the capabilities to resolve ongoing issue with Verizon's network when it takes over. However, if West Virginia does approve the acquisition they think Verizon should invest $300 million in the state's landline network.
