Windjammer Communications picks up some Time Warner rural customers
Windjammer Communications—a combination of private-equity firm MAST Capital Management and Communications Construction Services (CCS)—is now the proud owner of 80,000 former Time Warner Cable subscribers spread across some 125 head-ends in 25 states … at least it will be once the deal is wrapped in the fourth quarter.
TWC said it had reached agreement to sell Windjammer several small systems that had been for sale since spring in what it described as non-strategic areas. Terms of the deal weren’t released, but Time Warner said its second-quarter results will show a $45 million loss on the sale.
Cable executives familiar with the deal told Multichannel that the systems, while likely in need of upgrades, have the potential to offer high-speed data and telephony: The 120,000 revenue-generating units average only about 1.5 services per customer. “That means that they’re not offering much high-speed data and no voice service,” one executive said.
Time Warner Cable said CCS specializes in providing voice, video and data services to military personnel and supplies service to more than 200 military facilities in the continental U.S. and Hawaii.

We are/were UNHAPPY windjammer customers! A number of us are cancelling our business with this company and going with other highspeed options and will resort to netflix movies and watching the news/shows on our computers.
Windjammer offers a very bacis package for $19.95 in our area (38930)for channels 2-22. I have discivered that 3 are off the air, 1 is the TV Guide, 2 are date/temp only, four are shopping networks, 2 are C-span, 1 cartoons - leaving only SIX decent channels to watch. Those offer only silly daytime soaps during the day and basic network at night. Not worth even the $19.95.
The full package of $673.92 a year is out of the question.
We are being ripped off!
Our area has had four cable providers since 2000- Comcast, Adelphia, Time Warner and now Windjammer (since Feb.2009). At one time the service was $33.48. Windjammer just now raised their price to $56.16 - $673.92 a year! The service is poor -channels not working at all or poorly and interferences often. The advertisements are longer. On the TV Listing page, now reduced to 1/3 screen, the larger part runs offensive, program clips or advertized offensive products.
This cable company and others make a fortune! Why can't they offer a good service?!
Our area (38930)cable service has just been taken over by Windjammer. The rates have been raised to $56.16 a month - $673.92 a year!!!
They offer a new $19.95 package of 20 channels, most of which are trash. These packages are two extremes - too much to too little. There is not a fair package in between. Windjammer is ripping us off! At one time the local rate was 33.48 which I willingly paide for a fair offering.
I'm now looking for a dish. I will report this overbilling to the FCC.
I haven't had nearly as many problems as some of you folks have so I consider myself blessed to a certain extent. My local channel comes and goes as if it always has an appointment elsewhere and with other channels there have been picture and sound problems. I don't know how large Windjammer was before they took on more than they could handle , it looks like they kept the Tec's that were willing to stay but I do believe it was to big a bite and will cost them many customers. I get 20 some odd channels but my son just got Direct TV and he gets a hundred for just about the same price . I read where someone posted that they didn't honor contracts with landowners. They simply ignored me as if I am not there except to take two boxes away from me. Right now I tolerate them but the time is coming when they will be told to start rolling up cable and digging up poles. I have allowed myself to be pushed but this is far enough.
can someone explain why in gorgeous weather, no rain, no wind, no ice that we've been without cable for weeks! another puzzle is how they can keep operators who are so understanding and pleasant when they're working for such a dysfunctional company?
Our problems obviously come from a much higher level than can be remedied at the complaint desk. Obviously the management is so deficient, inept and confused that they aren't able to handle day-to-day problems, or either we were just bought from TW to be used as some sort of write off. Either way, it stinks, and it is a shame that we have no reasonable recourse. I do feel for the employees of these idiots, however.
I too am one of the "unfortunates" that was bought out by Windjammer. It has been nothing but torture! My cable is out almost as much as it's on. When I report it to Windjammer, the person I speak to is ALWAYS very nice and apologetic and tells me that all they know is that my area is declared as an outage and they cannot even fathom a guess when it will be restored. (This is on warm sunny days without a breeze stirring and not a cloud in the sky. They say that they are telling me all that they are being told. Obviously the management is comprised of imbeciles and liars to boot. Just praise God that you don't have to work for the idiots.
It is interesting and confusing at the same time, the Time Warner repair truck now simply has Cable written in the fender and the same teck is driving it. This deal is costing about 38 dollars for 28 channels, within the same price range as satellite but you get 100 channels. I see some great competition for Windjammer, they will either improve or lose
I run my business out of my home. Windjammer experienced an outage yesterday. Understandable, as its the time of the year that solar interference is experienced. When I got signal again, my modem did not recover from it. After talking with a windjammer representative for 45 mins they informed me it would be 16 days before a technician could come out. I honestly do not know how this company stays in business with such horrible Technical Support. Hire some more technicians and drop the outrageously high salaries of your upper management.
Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable!
Windjammer also does business as Communications Contractors Services and as American Warrior Networks on some Army Installations under an Army and Air Force Exchange contract. Your State Senator could look into this as well, there have been similar complaints from Soldiers. They have very little experience in this business.
I HAVENT HAD CABLE FOR 3 MONTHS AND NO NOTICE BUT A BILL FROM WIND. BULL CRAP! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! IM REPORTING TO FCC ON TIME WARNER! YALL STINK! IM CALLING THE DEFENDERS TOO!
REPORT TWC TO FCC. WE ALL NEED TO REPORT TO THE FCC. I AGREE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY.
Hi Everyone,
It sounds like I am not the only one that really got confused. We found out through roadrunner that they were changing to Windjammer. Now I just received a notice about TW being broke into by hackers and now having problems with interference.
Now my only question is what company do I have roadrunner through, TW or Windjammer?
Where are the feds in all this? Isn't this a case where a company rips off customers across the country and no oversight.
Hi everyone. I know all your sentiments. I'm an employee of WJ communications. Everyday, we have a lot of calls regarding several issues. As days passed by, there are additional issues and concerns need to face. Even I, don't know who to blame. We're just taking calls and try to defend our employee. If we are on your shoes, our dear customers, we also feel the same. We're tried complaining. :)
Talk about not knowing whats going on in your own company our communtiy got sold from TW to WJ couple of days later a family member gets a call from TW if they would like to sign up for high speed internet and phone/cable my cousin informed the TW employee we had got sold to WJ his response was i better tell my supervisor not to call any more people from your community talk about poor communication no surprise we were never told we were being sold............
Some of you at least got a letter we found out by chance that our community had been sold from TW to WindJammer what a surprise our rates have gone up!I called WJ they had no real answers to any of my questions obviously customer service has gone out the window.I guess since we are a small rural town they really do not care its time to make some changes.....
I am glad there are all these postings to warn me. We were switching to Windjammer for the whole phone, internet, cable package and they no showed on us twice in Marshall Missouri. what a waste of a day!! They pay anywhere from $2500-$4000 per subscriber when they buy these companies. Its hard to beleive they would just let that kind of money slip through their hands. I am glad to have avoided the on going service nightmare that would have occured based upon them not even being motivated to set up service!!!
Our internet cable was installed when our town was served by adelphia. It was ok, but wasn't the best. Time Warner came in and things began to get worse (speeds slow, bandwidth restriction nazis came forward and the internet was down 2 out of 7 days a week. Local Time Warner office was not interested in assisting me at all. Then the Windjammer surprise. The local office door was LOCKED and no one inside would answer the door (1100am on a Tuesday with workers seen inside). The internet went to NOTHING and as off for about 4 days. Calls to Windjammer were answered by some guy who laughed at my situation and asked why I lived in such a small town and expected good internet service. Needless to say,Windjammer is DONE. I will not EVER subscribe to ANY cable service again. EVER. I big company may not miss my money, but I'll tell everyone I can about how they treated me and will NEVER recommend them to anyone. Maybe that will work? I just feel a little better about not giving Windjammer one red cent...EVER.
Bobbie, from my experience it's just gonna get worse
I think its good common sense that if a company isn't respectful of it's customers , it's not going to be any better with it's employees. I was here when the system was first installed by a local mad who used my property for his wire, we had an oral contract for the years he had it and it was never broken, it was then sold to another company before Adelphi and the same hand shake and oral agreement was honored. Adelphia needed a written contract and they did well with that except for the last year and then they back slid as did Time Warner. I'm ready for these Windjammer folks when they need a favor, I've been educated.
If you think they treat you bad as a customer try being an employee of TWC.I could go on on about how bad they treat there empoyees as well as customers.I was eployeed by TWC once known as Adelphia. one thing I can say,I did walk away with good knowledge of how the cable system work.so if you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email.
Ruth, I'm in the White Sulphur area and feel your pain. Windjammer has threatened to discontinue service to some areas it bought from Comcast or Time Warner. I feel we will be next. Adelphia did extensive work in my area when they bought the system. Time Warner has little to show for the time they had the system. I don't know how you show a loss if you don't spend anything.
Problems here with sound and picture ever since Time Warner took over the system in my area. Contracts with land owners were ignored and a bully attitude was adopted. Now Windjammer has the wheel and the transferee to digital has been done but we don't have our local channel 6 except for the infomercial that continues to tell everyone on the system they need a converter box. Now my HBO is gone and the box sits there doing nothing, all in one day Windjammer is off to a very bad start. All efforts to contact them is about the same as communication with Mars. I have never been connected to satellite before but the idea is becoming larger in my mind as the days pass
We are from so. Ohio in a rural area - lots of forest and trees. We had/have ?? TW cable , after the Wind storm hit we had no cable. Called TW to report and were told we had been sold to WJ and transferred the call to them. What a joke - nobody knew anything, were not civil and completely uninformed. Spent 4-5 hours on the phone between the 2 companys trying to find out who owned our wires. Finally gave up and called att to get a phone , tv, internet bundle---we have had good service thru att with our phone and dsl--- took a couple of hours to speak to a human and when I did get a person, I could barely understand her speech. I did understand when she asked for my social security number for a credit check for DirectV! I told her "no" she could not have my soc. sec. number we had been att customers for 35 years and to check our acct. to see we always paid our bills. S he said the transaction could not be completed w/o my socsec#. I told her that in the USA (she was in India or someplace) the Social Security Admin. tells us that our # is for Tax purposes only. With identity theft rampant why would anyone give their social security # to a stranger, especially to one in a foreign country! I'm disgusted and in the process of filing complaints with the FCC, Public Utilities, Gov., Social Security Admin. Consumer Protection and anyone else I can think of. This am, we called WJ's billing dept. just to see if we were customers the ans was yes - they had all our info! We then called WJ'S tech. support to see when repairs would be made. She said they had not been informed of the outage in our area! That is not the truth. We and our neighbors have also been calling for days! But she gave us a job number for the now documented repair work! I'll believe it when I see it! This all has been poorly handled and seemingly shady.
KY We had a winter ice storm that caused the state to call a State of Emergency we were without electricity for 13 days and then guess what when that came back on we did not have our cable. We are not into 20 days and counting without cable. Went to Time Warner for repair and was told I had been sold to Windjammer and given an 866 number to call. I call three times was on hold at least 15 to 20 minutes each time then when I heard a human voice they kept telling me that I was not in their computer base as of yet so they could not help me. I am presently looking into Dish Network, but I can tell you Timer Warner is going to get my 2 cents worth of advertising. I was never notified of this change nor has Windjammer notified me of no service in my area. I was just left without. Now Time Warner does not want to give me back the money they owe me for the time period my cable was down during the ice storm get this they say they will be glad to issue me a credit on my next bill. I asked what next bill????????
This is really unbelieveable. My parents were also without cable during the ice storm and they finally got their cable back after this 82 year old man went to their local office a begged. His has a wife and son who are terminally ill and shutins. This is how he got his cable back he ran into a someone in neighborhood who was repairing cable and asked him about coming to his house he told Dad that he was on his list, but when Dad told him his circumstances this kind man fixed his cable in the pouring down rain. He was from North Carolina and was on contract to come in after the Storm by Time Warner to fix cable that was down. Seems Time Warner had laid off all of local their cable workers in this area (KY). Their service trucks aresitting on their lots not being used.
Those of you who still have Time Warner better run and find something else as fast as you can they are up to something. I am thinking bankruptcy leaving everybody high and dry.
Suppose Mr. Turner needs the Tax Deduction!!!!!
Yes, Ruth, I do live in West Virginia. When I spoke to Windjammer yesterday about our service outage the past few days, they told me that all of West Virginia will be shut down on February 17. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!!
I am in the same situation as you. I received the postcard, called to inquire, and was on hold so long that my cordless phone died. A week later, I received the same letter. I think it's interesting that they are only pushing DirecTV, not Dish - perhaps some under the table deal? Our service was off from 11:30 AM on February 11 until sometime today, February 13 however I am told that it will be shut down permanently on February 17. I don't know who I'm angrier with, Time Warner or Windjammer.
i also got the letter saying that our cable would be turned off and got a stupid direct tv coupon. what the hell? what makes us less worthy of cable that anybody eles? you may have to spend a little to make a little. is't our right to have a say in this? this is totally stupid and needs to be looked into better.

I would be interested in learning if any of the above people are in West Virginia. I just learned of this sale and fear the problems mentioned above. We do not have good service with Time Warner at all so less service or total elimination of availability is what I believe we have to look forward to. I too suggest either the FCC or Comsumer Protection as well as governor's offices be notified. Maybe Time Warner also got federal funds in their time of need.
We feel cheated! We were informed week before last that Windjammer was out new cable system and then the very next week they sent us a letter to tell us they are dropping our system because we are no longer profitable! They also sent us a brochure wanting us to hook up with Direct TV satellite like they are doing us some kind of favor! What kind of crap is that??!
i dont know why we cant just get comcast in the area... they r great.. i had them for 3 years before i moved here and loved them and never had a problem ....
well i have been trying to establish services with time warner for a month and a half, finally i find out its been sold to windjammer. windjammer for the past month hasnt had a clue of this, finally today i get threw and i am told that yes as of feb. 5 this area will be part of winjammer but unfortunatley they cant help me let alone install services because as of feb. 17 they will no longer be providing any services to this area .. so those of u that now have time warner / windjammer good luck to ya cuz u may not even have services after they officially take over !!!! i am so very unhappy went with direct tv and am still not pleased..cant pick up any local channels with them and it makes it hard when i have children in the school system here and need to get delays and cancellations !!!!
We have just experienced a major winter storm, which knocked out our system. When I called TWC, I was routed to Windjammer, who proceeded to tell me that we were not a customer and that it was TWC's fault. I just want someone to know that TWC did not notify us of the sale. Our past experience w/TWC has been painful. I too, think that Ohio Public Utilities commission should be notified and plan on doing so. I have had to call the corporate offices in CT in order to be able to talk w/ PERSON in Ohio. This is no longer about service interruption, it's about principal. If we didn't have so many trees we'd get a dish.
Your nuts cable providers don't have to give you emergency service, they are not required to.So all you are going to do is frustrate yourself more and waste your time.
Same here!! We got the letter on Saturday!! The only reason I had TW in the first place was because we have to many trees for Sat!! Now we will have nothing unless I cut a tree down. I'm not sure TV is worth that. I guess I better stock up on dvds. Just bought a new tv two week ago!!!!! I HATE TIME WARNER!!!
We were never informed about this sale. The first we heard about it was when we received a letter from Windjammer saying they were discontinuing service to our entire community! In so many words the letter stated we weren't worth have to upgrade the local equipment to provide high definition. They offered a coupon with Direct TV to get network programming. Surprise!,no local networks are available in our area through Direct TV or Dish Network.
I recently purchased cable, internet, and telephone service with Time-Warner Cable in Hanceville, Alabama. I am pleased with all of my services except for the fact that I do not have phone service. I have attempted to contact Time-Warner and WindJammer and both are telling me that the other is responsibile. Who is responsibile? When will I get my home telephone service hooked-up? Any body? Any clue?
I am,
Bobbie Herron
Our experience has been nothing but poor. We had digital cable, digital phone, and Roadrunner Internet through TW. We were without phone for over seven days. We spent a collective total of eight hours on hold, being transferred, and talking to employees who had NO CLUE how to resolve our issue. The disabled our wireless modem while trying to fix our phone, even though my husband told them NUMEROUS times they were two separate modems. We were without 911 access the entire week, which is a violation of Federal law. I am filing a complaint with the FCC and encourage everyone else to do the same. When I questioned if WJ knew this, I was told they did, but they just tried to change the subject.
My husband works in cable and telephony for a different provider and managed to speak to the ONE person who had a clue at WJ, so our phone service has been restored. We are switching our services to other providers due to the lack of customer service or even fake concerns for our issues. My kids have been wanting to satellite for a while; I guess they will be getting their wish.
are you kidding me Time Warner? i dont know about anyone else, but i didnt know my internet provider changed until i lost connection one night and was told by a recorded customer service message. Time Warner are a bunch of communists! They have the monopoly on cable/ internet for Ft. Benning and they act like it too -- no sale notification is the least of their discredit. The poor guys in the barracks pay for "high speed internet," yet time warner runs 90 guys through one freakin hub! Are you kidding?! If anyone knows the address of TW HQ please post it so I can go find their CEO and shove my $80 service bill down his throat, smash my cable box in his face that displays half my chanels in worse quality than my antena TV growing up, and strangle him with the land line cables from the ripped off guys in the baracks, because he needs to know how sickenning of a company he's running.
I found out about the sale when I got a card in the mail saying they were our new cable provider. I had been having problems (minor) lately but this week they are really bad. I have sound but no picture on one TV and some channels are missing. I tried calling last night and was on hold for over 30 minutes. Finally some one answered and put me on hold for an additonal 30 minutes more. I finally hung. I guess it is going to be time to get a dish.
Don't feel bad. Windjammer told us the same thing. No phone and said it could take 6 more days before our phone will be on. We were never notified of any change until I called today for service and found out. They are very unprofessional and their website is very pitiful.Good luck. We have no other choice but to go to straight cellular and satellite cause AT&T phone is too high and only has dialup ( we live 1 mile from town) and we were promised DSL last year. That is why we changed. What a let down.
We are furious! We signed up for Digital phone approximately 65 days ago. We were not notified of the sale of TWC. On Monday morning at 8am, I went to make a call but the phone was dead. My husband called (at this point we learned of their sale to Wenawhatever). The rep apologized, explained of the 'transitional problems' and guaranteed we would have service by Tuesday 6am. GRRRR! Tuesday at 9am, still no service! Called AGAIN, rep apologized and said a Tech would call right back. It is 4pm, still nothing. GRRRRRRRRRRRR.....One ore hour and we're going back to our old provider! This is rediculous!!
Should Time Warner offer this to the local,City
First.
