Windstream will battle TWC with Kinetic pay-TV service in Kentucky

Windstream is going to take on Time Warner Cable by launching its Kinetic pay-TV service in Lexington, Ky., later this year. This will be the company's second market for its pay-TV service: it launched Kinetic in Lincoln, Neb., in April.

Windstream said it will launch Kinetic in late fall to approximately 50,000 potential households and offer video-on-demand service; whole-home DVR that records up to four shows at once; and a wireless Ericsson set-top that can be moved around the house.

In its Lincoln market, Windstream priced its service starting at $59.98 for a basic TV and Internet bundle and topping out at $129.98 for a premium triple-play package including a top-end TV bundle, high-speed Internet and voice service. Windstream offers HD programming at no extra charge. The company hasn't released pricing for the Lexington market yet.

Windstream also competes with Time Warner Cable in its Lincoln market. The company has not released its subscriber figures for Kinetic; however, in June the company said that demand for the service has met its expectations.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington currently has a 10-year franchise agreement with Time Warner Cable that was finalized in December 2014. Windstream will have the second franchise agreement and will pay $56,000 within the next 60 days and then pay $6,000 each of the next nine years.

Windstream already provides landline service in Lexington as well as high-speed broadband service.
