Windstream names Bob Gunderman as interim CFO

Windstream has made another move in the realignment of its top management team, naming Bob Gunderman as interim CFO. The move comes after the company said it plans to spin off certain telecommunications network assets into an independent, publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT).

Gunderman takes over the role from Tony Thomas, who has been appointed to be president of the REIT that Windstream announced in July.

A six-year company veteran, Gunderman is senior vice president and treasurer for Windstream. In that role he oversees all of the telco's capital budgeting, forecasting, treasury and capital market functions, debt management, investor relations and risk management.

When the telco completes the spin-off of certain telecommunications network assets into the independent, publicly traded REIT in the first quarter of 2015, Thomas will become CEO of the REIT.

Windstream is conducting a national search to find a permanent replacement for the CFO position.

Gunderman's appointment as interim CFO is just one of many management changes Windstream has taken in recent months as it prepares to operate under a new company structure.

In August, Chief Operating Officer Brent Whittington announced he would resign on Sept. 1. At that time, the service provider said it would not replace Whittington, but instead eliminate the COO position and distribute the duties between Mark Faris, executive vice president of operations, and Randy Nicklas, CTO and executive vice president of engineering.
