Wire One deal beefs up BT's U.S. presence

BT is acquiring Wire One Holdings, a U.S.-based videoconferencing service provider that will be brought into the U.K. telco's Quincy, Mass.-based BT Conferencing unit. BT purchasing the company for an undisclosed amount from private equity firm The Gores Group. Wire One, has a London office and extensions into the European market, but it is primarily expected to supply much of the videoconferencing capabilities that BT pitches to corporate enterprise customers in the U.S. It has offices in Ohio, Colorado and elsewhere, with network operations centers in Colorado and London. Telepresence is the latest buzzword in videoconferencing, and Wire One recently was authorized to sell and support Cisco Systems Telepresence gear and services.
