WOW! Business extends 110 Mbps SMB offering to four Southeast cities

WOW! Business continues to ramp up the availability of its 110 Mbps service, announcing that it is bringing it to small and medium businesses (SMBs) in an additional four Southeast cities.

The service provider is now offering the new speed option to businesses in Augusta, Charleston, Knoxville and Panama City, bringing to 10 the total number of Southeast markets where new plans deliver up to 110/15 Mbps.

Brad Cheedle, senior vice president of WOW! Business, said that as it nears the completion of its expansion of its broadband service in the Southeast and Midwest, the company is "already seeing an excellent response rate from single and multi-location businesses in a variety of market segments."

Delivered via a standard cable modem device, the 110/15 Mbps service is designed for businesses that may have outgrown their lower speed plans or have decided to migrate away from a telco's standard T1 line.

What will set apart WOW! Business' 110 offering from other telco and even cable MSO competitors like Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is the service provider does not require businesses to bundle in voice service to get the best service pricing. In addition to 110 Mbps, the cable MSO offers four other speed options: 8/1 Mbps, 15/2 Mbps, 30/5 Mbps and 60/5 Mbps.

Another potential benefit of the 110 Mbps tier is that it can also enable SMBs to migrate to cloud services.

"It also makes it easier for people to step into the cloud solutions that we have," Cheedle told FierceTelecom. "With those new speed bands, they don't really need a synchronous connection if they are trying to back up point-of-sale terminals. It's an even more palatable solution than it was before."

These new additional markets follow similar recent debuts of the service in various Midwest cities, including Detroit and Evansville, Ind., which became the fourth and fifth markets where the higher speed cable modem-based tier is available. Earlier, the service provider offered the tier in Chicago, Cleveland and Columbus.

By having the 110 Mbps and lower speed tiers it carries over its HFC network and a host of fiber-based Ethernet and optical networking services that scale up to 10 Gbps, Cheedle said that they can address a large array of business types.

"It's great having this particular asset because it does enable us to have conversations up and down the demographic," Cheedle said. "We have a great small business solution, we have a great middle enterprise, and we have great fiber density for carriers and enterprise companies looking to solve last mile challenges they've had for a long time."
