XO expands Ethernet, offers higher speeds

XO Communications is expanding availability of Ethernet services to cover more than 500,000 business customer locations in 75 markets. XO's Ethernet reach is built on a mix of fiber, copper and wireless, with copper taking on an increasingly strategic role in high-demand markets where there is not a lot of fiber deployed.

The carrier's mid-band Ethernet over copper deployments, using technology from Hatteras Networks, will supply Ethernet speed well above 10 Mbps. XO noted that it has being seeing much more demand for higher-speed Ethernet than it originally thought.
