Zayo adds 2,500 fiber route miles to Southeast U.S. network

Zayo is enhancing its fiber infrastructure in the Southeast region of the United States with plans to expand its network by over 2,500 route miles.

Upon completion, the new routes will extend the competitive carrier's long-haul connectivity into Richmond, Va., Raleigh, N.C., Tampa and Orlando, Fla.

The network buildout will give business customers in the manufacturing, oil and gas and financial sectors access to Zayo's broader fiber network, which now spans 76,800 route miles connecting approximately 300 markets throughout the U.S. and Europe.

One of the other key benefits of this expansion is that it will be able to provide diverse connectivity into the existing Miami metro market it serves today. Expanding its presence in Miami will enable Zayo to address other enterprise and carrier interconnection opportunities for traffic with Latin America.

Expanding its presence in the Southeast U.S. has become one of the competitive provider's key targets. Zayo completed its acquisition of US Carrier last October, immediately gaining a 3,700-mile regional network that connects a number of key markets including Atlanta, Jacksonville, Fla., Tallahassee, Nashville and Chattanooga, Tenn.

In related news, Zayo lit up its 100G wavelength services between London and Amsterdam, providing connectivity to traffic aggregation points and IP nodes in key European markets.

Driven to address bandwidth demands for cloud computing, media and content companies and financial customers it acquired from AboveNet, the 100G wavelength platform, which it already offers to customers on the West Coast and East Coast regions, will continue to be deployed in Europe during the rest of this year and into the first half of 2014.
