Zayo lights third Denver data center, capitalizes on Latisys acquisition

Zayo's colocation business, zColo, has opened its third data center in Denver, Colo., a market it entered by acquiring Latisys, a colocation and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider.

The new center, which is located at 1500 Champa Street, features 19,000 square feet of data center space. It also offers 2MW of fully redundant power, serviced from diverse utility feeds and 2N configuration cooling.

Customers that use this new carrier-neutral facility will be able to gain access to various interconnectivity options, including Zayo's own fiber network that includes fiber connectivity to 910 15th street in Denver.

By acquiring Latisys, zColo immediately gained access to two other data centers, at 393 Inverness Parkway in Englewood, Colo., and 6900 South Peoria Street in Centennial, Colo.

With this new data center in place, zColo's colocation footprint now totals 159,000 square feet in the Denver market and includes SSAE 16 SOC 2-, SOC 3-, HIPAA- and PCI-compliant facilities.

Although this expansion is focused on Denver, it's possible that zColo could expand the colocation and IaaS services in the four other markets--Northern Virginia, Chicago, Orange County and London--it picked up when it bought Latisys.

Data center expansion through the acquisition of companies such as Latisys has been an ongoing priority for zColo. In the past year or so, the service provider has increased its data center reach, by acquiring Dallas-based colocation provider CoreXchange in March 2014 and Atlanta data center and managed services provider AtlantaNAP in July 2014.
