Carrier Ethernet News

Carrier Ethernet is the process of accessing the Internet and communicating between academic, business, and government local area networks (LANs) by using high-bandwidth Ethernet technology. Carrier Ethernet can be deployed using a pure Ethernet, Ethernet over Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), or Ethernet over Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). Carrier Ethernets are able to bypass bandwidth bottlenecks, which happen when many smaller networks attempt to connect to one larger network. In addition, Carrier Ethernets have very few configuration requirements, enabling them to accommodate an assortment of computers and networks of various sizes. Use of a Carrier Ethernet within a metropolitan area network (MAN), a network able to interconnect users in an area larger than a LAN but smaller than a wide area network (WAN), is referred to as a Metro Ethernet.
