Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are systems of computers that contain copies of data at various points in a network in order to maximize bandwidth access to the data from clients throughout the network. Providing copies of data near to a user prevent a rush of users attempting to access one central server and thus reduces the likelihood of bottlenecks near a given server. CDNs can increase the maximum number of concurrent users; decrease the load on interconnects, peers and backbones; deliver content over TCP and UDP connections; distribute assets to strategically placed; and give more control of asset delivery and network load. |
