Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) refers to the integration of wireline and wireless technologies to create one seamless telecommunications network, or to the removal of the distinctions between fixed and mobile networks. FMC seeks to optimize data transmission, voice and video communications to multiple locations, users and devices. FMC can be seen as a response to the possibility that homes and businesses would replace all fixed networks with mobile networks. Difficulties in the implementation of FMC include technology upgrades, marketing and organizational challenges. According to Pyramid Research, in the telecommunications industry in France FMC is a key competitive factor: mobile broadband is being added to the bundled packages offered.
