OTT video News

Over-the-Top (OTT) Video describes the process in broadcasting and content services in which content is delivered over a medium other than the traditional main video delivery infrastructure. Examples of this include live video delivery through DTTV or accessing video content via the internet. OTT video allows a user to access a larger library of programming but unlike IPTV, which controls bandwidth and quality of service, it uses standard, constrained network resources. The largest players in the OTT game include competitors Netflix and Hulu Premium. In February 2011, Amazon announced that they would begin offering OTT services to Amazon Prime subscribers through a new program called Amazon Instant Video. In March 2011, startup Zediva entered the OTT market offering subscribers the opportunity to watch movies by renting a DVD at the Zediva office and having it stream to the customer’s house over the internet. |
