triple play News

Triple Play refers to the bundling of two bandwidth-intensive services and a less bandwidth demanding service over a single broadband connection. Generally this involves a company providing bandwidth-high, television and high-speed internet, with low-bandwidth telephone service. Telephone LECs use optical fiber and DSL technology, collectively known as fiber in the loop, to deliver content to a residential base. In this manner, DSL is used instead of a standard POTS twisted pair cable, and television is delivered via IPTV, streaming as an MPEG-2. More recently, the term “quadruple play” has been used to describe wireless communication as another medium to deliver content, due to advances in CDMA and GSM standards. Top competitors in the triple play market include Verizon Fios, Comcast Triple Play, and Time Warner Triple Play. Smaller competitors include the Mediacom VIP Pak, Optimum Triple Play and Charter’s 3 Service bundle.
