Dean Prevost, the president of the Manitoba Telecom Services' business unit Allstream, will leave the service provider on Jan. 17 to pursue other opportunities.
He will be replaced by Allstream COO Michael Strople, who has been with the company since 2005.
Prevost came to Allstream when he joined its predecessor AT&T Canada (NYSE: T) Enterprises as VP of strategy and business development. As a founding member of Allstream, he held various key roles, including president of IT Services, chief marketing officer, chief strategy officer and chief corporate officer.
One of Prevost's largest accomplishments during his tenure as president of Allstream was to grow the service provider's presence in Canada's mid-market by delivering services to customers on or near Allstream's growing national fiber network. In Q3 2013, Allstream added 83 buildings to its network, ending the quarter with a total of 2,953 fiber-fed buildings.
The service provider expects that the leadership transition to Strople, who has worked alongside Prevost and the broader MTS Allstream management, "will be smooth."
Prevost is not the only executive to recently leave the service provider. Allstream's Chief Corporate Officer Chris Peirce, who also joined the company via AT&T in 1999 as vice president, Government Affairs, announced late last year that he would retire.
The departures of Prevost and Peirce follow MTS' failed attempt to sell Allstream to Cairo, Egypt-based Accelero Capital Holdings in September. Citing unspecified security concerns, the Canadian government rejected the deal.
