Bell Canada has responded to the need for greater in-home Wi-Fi speed by introducing its 802.11ac-based Home Hub Internet modem and Wi-Fi router for its growing Fibe Internet customer base.
Designed to serve multiple users, the service provider said that the new router works up to three times faster than most residential Wi-Fi routers and offers a range of integrated tools to easily manage access and usage by several users.
Users in one household can manage access and track device usage. A parent could set boundaries around online gaming or other Internet access during homework or at bedtime and determine how much data everyone in the family is using on their computers, tablets or smartphones.
In addition, Bell Fibe customers will receive free McAfee Security services to protect their data and devices. Eligible customers will be able to get the new device for $199.95.
The debut of the new router comes at a time when Bell is seeing its Fibe TV subscriber base continue to rise.
During the first quarter of 2014, Bell Canada added 54,680 net new Fibe TV customers, a 15.2 percent increase over the first quarter of 2013.
The Canadian telco now has 534,110 Fibe TV customers across a footprint which grew by more than a million homes to reach 4.5 million by the end of the first quarter. High-speed Internet net customer additions increased almost four times year-over-year from 3,952 to 15,627 as the carrier ended the quarter with 2.2 million high-speed subscribers.
