Frontier, Asurion offer electronic equipment protection plans

Frontier Communications (Nasdaq: FTR) has added electronic equipment protection for residential customers and small business customers to the list of amenities that it offers under its Frontier Secure brand, via a partnership with technology protection company Asurion.

Eligible to both Frontier and non-Frontier customers, Frontier Secure will provide repair/replacement plans covering a number common electronic devices, including PCs and laptops, gaming consoles, TVs (LED, LCD and Plasma), iPads, eReaders, tablets, and printers. There is no contract required for the technology protection service.

For one fee, customers have the option of covering all of their devices, their entire home, offices or small business location.

When a customer buys an Equipment Protection Plan they get a dedicated phone number that will connect them to U.S.-based customer service representatives.

Depending on the type of equipment and required repairs, the claim process could include an on-site service appointment from a certified professional and device repair or replacement. Frontier Secure will also offer prepaid shipping for laptops, tablets, eReaders, gaming consoles and TVs (37" and under). The telco is also offering other discounts for customers that bundle Equipment Protection Plans with other Frontier Secure products and services.

As it has seen its traditional landline voice revenues continue to decline, Frontier has been looking for new revenue opportunities for its existing customers and as an over the top provider for other consumers outside of its traditional telco footprint. In addition to technology protection, Frontier Secure offers computer security, backup and sharing, tech support, and identity protection.

Asurion is one of many partners Frontier is using to offer new value-added services. Earlier this year, Frontier established a similar relationship with TRG Customer Solutions, an outsourced contact center solutions provider, where TRG will offer three of Frontier's Secure products--computer security; cloud-based unlimited backup and sharing; and proactive identity protection—to its customer base.
