Global Capacity is getting ready for its next wave of growth, with plans to extend its service reach into five new markets this year.
This growth plan comes on the heels of what already was a time of growth for the service provider. In 2013, Global Capacity reported that revenue grew 17 percent due to ongoing network and product expansion of its One Marketplace platform.
Throughout the past year the service provider expanded into new five markets and the capacity of its national backbone by 30 Gbps. In 2013, it added Ashburn, Va., San Jose, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and Seattle.
"Our One marketplace is North America-focused today," said Jack Lodge, president of Global Capacity, in an interview with FierceTelecom. "At the beginning of last year, we were in five markets and we doubled the markets were in from five to 10 and are looking to go to 15 to 18 this year."
While Lodge could not name any specific markets yet, possible targets include Denver, Boston, Miami, Kansas City and Phoenix.
Part of its growth strategy includes partnerships with data center providers like Equinix.
Lodge said it is "looking to partner with other data center providers and we'll probably have some announcements over the next 60 days."
Looking forward, Global Capacity is considering expanding into other smaller U.S. markets and into select international markets through partnerships with data center providers.
Lodge said that partnerships with other data center providers will be key in reaching more markets both in the U.S. and internationally.
"We're looking to expand that and as we expand our geographies and ultimately as we look to expand beyond the borders of North America and go internationally partnerships with providers like Equinix will be key in driving that," Lodge said.
Another tool in its expansion toolkit is Overture Networks' 6500 multi-service Carrier Ethernet 2.0-based platform.
Previously it deployed the 6000 platform to enhance its ability to deliver a mix of Ethernet over Fiber, Ethernet over TDM and legacy TDM services for its business and carrier customers.
Having the EoTDM capability means that it can connect even more TDM-based customers that want to migrate to Ethernet services but either are not ready for fiber or aren't within reach of a fiber-based solution.
"We started with the 6000 and moving up to the 6500 gave us a huge amount of flexibility," said Mary Stanhope, vice president of Product and Marketing at Global Capacity, in an interview with FierceTelecom. "The flexibility of being able to do pure Ethernet in that density of E-NNIs as well as the 1 Gig and 10 Gig on that box and having the benefit of the Ethernet over TDM makes it a natural choice for us in putting out into these new POPs out there."
