Level 3 introduces SIP-based voice migration option for businesses

Level 3 Communications (NYSE: LVLT) is giving business customers a migration path from TDM-based voice services to SIP and unified communications with its new Voice Complete solution.

A multi-location business can connect more of its sites to the new service via a native PRI (primary rate interface) handoff capability--a common business service element most businesses already know and use.

Since many businesses have already installed existing PBX that may be up for replacement or still functioning, two key benefits of this solution are cost and management.

The PRI-handoff option enables business customers to get a SIP handoff directly to an existing TDM-based PBX without the requirement of buying or configuring additional equipment.

Other features include geographically independent telephone numbers and a combination of dedicated long distance and local services, SIP services and ISDN-PRI services. Level 3 said the telephone numbers can simplify the management of telephone numbers across mobile workforces and providing virtual presence.

The Voice Complete solution, which follows the debut of its cloud-based video conferencing solution, is another way that Level 3 is trying to appeal to more business customers.

During the second quarter, Level 3 reported that the 2.4 percent growth in its Core Network Services division was due to the increase in enterprise services in all three of its regions--North America, EMEA and Latin America.
