Lumos names Joseph McCourt to senior post

Lumos Networks (Nasdaq: LMOS) has appointed Joseph McCourt Jr. as its new executive VP and chief revenue officer, the latest move by the service provider to solidify its top management team.

Charged with overseeing all of the telco's sales, marketing and customer care functions, McCourt will report to CEO Timothy Biltz, who just came to the company in late April.

McCourt comes from 1901 Group, a privately-held information management company. During his 25 year telecom career, he has served in a number of executive and sales positions at a number of competitive service providers including tw telecom, Level 3, and Zayo.

A key focus for McCourt and the rest of the Lumos management team will be on advancing its growing set of retail and wholesale fiber-based services. On the retail side, the focus will be on expanding the telco's footprint of on-net fiber-fed buildings to deliver Ethernet services and its emerging colocation/data center business.

Lumos is being no less aggressive on the wholesale front, particularly with fiber-based wireless backhaul. In 2012, the service provider said it's on track to extend its Fiber to the Tower (FTTT) footprint to an additional 150 sites with a number of large wireless operators.
