NTT Communications builds fiber network targeting Indonesia businesses

NTT Communications' (NYSE: NTT) Indonesian unit has lit its own fiber network service to serve business customers in the East Jakarta Industrial Park near Jakarta.

Targeting multisite businesses that have large bandwidth requirements, the fiber network will enable them to connect their global offices or global cloud platforms via NTT Indonesia's nearest point of presence.

Of course, this is just the beginning of NTT's plans.

Having obtained a "Local Fixed Network with Cable Basis & Packet Switched" license in December 2011, the service provider plans build out fiber networks in other business park and office building locations throughout Indonesia.

Unlike other service providers that have extended their international reach into areas like Indonesia by partnering with local providers, NTT is building and managing the fiber network itself. Having that on-net fiber connectivity in business parks and multi-tenant buildings gives the service provider more control over the quality of service it provides to prospective customers.

NTT's move in Indonesia is part of a broader international expansion effort targeting regions outside of its Japan homeland including Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
