Tellabs appoints Crowe Horwath partner Larry Rieger as acting CFO

Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) has named Larry Rieger, a partner with Crowe Horwath LLP, as its acting CFO. He replaces Tom Minichiello, who recently left the company to take on the CFO role at Westell.

Having worked with the vendor's finance team since 2003, Rieger is hardly a stranger to Tellabs.

"Larry brings Tellabs deep expertise in finance, plus more than a decade of experience working with our finance team, so he can hit the ground running," said Dan Kelly, Tellabs president and CEO.

After 29 years with Arthur Andersen, Rieger joined Crowe Horwath in 2002 and served in a number of roles, including as managing partner and CEO of Crowe Horwath Global Risk Consulting Service.

Rieger is the second person to take over the CFO position since Andrew B. Szafran resigned from the company for personal reasons in May.

In related news, Tellabs promoted eight-year company veteran Michael Miles from director of finance to vice president of finance and chief accounting officer. Before coming to Tellabs in 2005, Miles served in a number of financial roles at other telecom and IT vendors including UTStarcom, CommWorks, 3Com and U.S. Robotics.
