tw telecom extends Ethernet network to Telehouse's Manhattan data center

tw telecom's (Nasdaq: TWTC) move to extend its Ethernet network to TELEHOUSE in New York is another proof point of the growing wholesale fiber connectivity trend for data centers and Internet exchange providers.

Under the terms of the agreement, tw telecom is expanding its reach into the Manhattan area by connecting its Ethernet network into TELEHOUSE's New York Chelsea data center, located at 85 10th Avenue.

Customers that reside at the TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea facility will be able to get promotional pricing for a limited time on bundled services.

While tw telecom itself has not built its own data center business, its deep fiber and Ethernet network has made it a good partner to players like TELEHOUSE that have had few options besides large incumbent telcos.

TELEHOUSE is only one of tw telecom's many data center provider partners.

Outside of Manhattan, the CLEC has been equally aggressive on the West Coast where it brought fiber-based services to 30 Bay area data centers in September.

Data center providers also will potentially benefit from tw telecom's move to expand its metro and regional fiber network by 17 percent and developing a plan to enter what it calls five new "high-demand" markets.
