Windstream Communications will be providing enhanced fiber connectivity to Fort Campbell and Dover Air Force base thanks to a $3 million contract it signed with the Department of Defense's Defense Information System Agency (DISA).
The agreement with DISA calls for Windstream to augment the bases' current network design with two half-10 Gbps waves that are tied back to the carrier's national fiber network. The end result should allow employees at both military installations to connect to a secure, reliable network.
"By expanding the fiber at each of these locations, day-to-day business will flow even more efficiently," Windstream Vice President and General Manger of Government Solutions Mike Magliato said in a press release, adding that "military facilities need to maintain network connectivity with secure and uncompromised connections."
Windstream also announced that its United Communications as a Service (UCaaS) managed cloud-based solution is available to enterprise and mid-sized customers nationwide for a flat monthly rate.
"Our UC solution helps business create a more collaborative and connected workforce, providing anytime, anywhere access to a range of UC options using a single, consistent interface," Matt Preschern, Windstream's senior vice president and enterprise chief marketing officer, said in a press release. "UCaaS, supported by our team of experts and entirely hosted and managed by Windstream from our data center to the MPLS network, provides the smart solutions and personalized service our customers need to help their businesses succeed."
Bill Haskins, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research, pointed to the introduction of seamless and real-time communications platforms as "driving enterprise adoption of unified communications services."
