Lenovo expanded its TruScale platform with help from the likes of VMware and Intel to offer customers the option to buy everything as a service, all under a single contract.
The company first introduced its TruScale platform for infrastructure services in 2019, offering customers a consumption-based model for data center hardware and services. It teamed with Nutanix to offer a hosted desktop solution using the TruScale model in April of this year. Now, TruScale will span its entire portfolio of services from the pocket to the cloud, the company said.
“Customers need a simple and easy way to consume IT,” Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang stated during the company’s Tech World 2021 event. “I see as-a-service as a major trend to fundamentally reshape the IT industry. It turns separate purchases of hardware, software and services into an integrated purchase experience. It turns separate steps of design, deployment and operation services into a subscription-based, all-inclusive model.”
Kirk Skaugen, Lenovo EVP and president of its Infrastructure Solutions Group, said it has enlisted partners including Deloitte, Intel, Microsoft, Nutanix, SAP and VMware “to deliver end-to-end TruScale offerings across the breadth of our portfolio.” Specifically, he said it will offer virtualization solutions from edge to cloud with VMware; hybrid cloud solutions at the edge via Microsoft; multi-cloud management with Deloitte; and silicon as a service alongside Intel.
Ken Wong, president of Lenovo’s Solutions and Services Group, noted in a statement that Truscale will provide customers with “a single point of accountability” for all their services.

Lenovo is far from the only company pushing an as-a-service model. HPE notably pledged to offer its entire portfolio as a service by 2022 via its GreenLake platform, while VMware has also been working to grow its software-as-a-service revenue.
During the Tech World event, Lenovo also beefed up its edge portfolio with two new offerings. These include the ThinkEdge SE70, an artificial intelligence edge platform for enterprise build in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, and revamped ThinkSystem SE350 Edge Servers which come preloaded with VMware’s edge software.
