Google Fiber is looking to hire door-to-door sales representatives and a special projects manager for technical operations in Salt Lake City, Utah, as it proceeds with plans to rapidly expand its presence there. The company is also looking to hire more sales and technical staff in Austin and San Antonio, Texas; West Des Moines, Iowa; Charlotte and Durham, N.C.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Nashville, Tenn. as it ramps efforts to expand not only its footprint but also its customer base in 2022.
In a blog, Google Fiber’s new West Region General Manager Ashley Church revealed 2021 marked a major expansion of the company’s footprint in the Salt Lake City area, noting it “added almost 30% more households to our service area and more than doubled our customers over the last year.” It now has nearly 1,000 miles of fiber in the region covering more than 100,000 households.
Church added the company’s expansion effort will continue apace this year and stated Google Fiber has received approval to begin construction in six new communities in the Salt Lake City area. Fierce reported on several of those approvals earlier this month.
“There are more on the horizon, we’re currently in conversations with several other cities in both Salt Lake County and Weber County that don’t currently have a fiber-to-the-home internet provider,” she wrote. “We hope to have more expansion news to share shortly.”
The post notes Google Fiber is looking to grow its local team in Utah and also fill several central roles to support the whole organization. Google Fiber’s careers page – which launched in December – lists more than four dozen open positions, including senior roles like Head of Digital Care; Strategy and Operations Lead; Head of Test Engineering; and Head of Contact Center, Sales Operations and Performance.
Efforts to grow its workforce follow a year in which Google Fiber said it built to more households than in any other year and rolled out a new 2-gig service. The company wrote in December it was looking to “expand even more next year”.
