Cato adds new capabilities, UI to SASE platform

Cato Networks redesigned its user interface (UI) and added some new capabilities to its cloud-based secured access service edge (SASE) platform. These updates are intended to make it easier for network administrators to use the platform and identify areas that are critical to their business.

The platform’s UI now has a topology page that provides users with high-level insight into their deployment so they can see how many sites and users are connected and even what operating system they are using. The UI can be customized so that different network administrators can focus on any critical area of the network.

According to Evin Safdia, director of product marketing in North America for Cato Networks, the company found that its previous UI made it challenging for some customers to focus on the data that mattered the most to them, so this new UI addresses that issue.

Cato also has a new Cloud Apps catalog that profiles more than 5,000 applications. The catalog provides an overview of the application and rates it for its security and compliance profile. “This gives administrators that are not familiar with an app some insight into whether they should block it or purchase it,” said Dave Greenfield, director of technology evangelism at Cato Networks.

Greenfield added that Cato collects all the information about the various applications through data mining and also through its analysis of the data and traffic that it carries over its platform. “We see customer applications and the traffic so we can see whether the application is adhering to compliance standards,” he said.

Cato also added a new Threats Dashboard that provides a single dashboard and summarizes any insights found through the company’s various security protocols, firewalls and anti-malware services. By using this dashboard, security teams can see the largest threats to the company as well as the impacted individuals and endpoints.

And the company added an Applications Dashboard to provide an overall view of the enterprise’s application analytics so that administrators can understand the bandwidth consumption of different applications and users.

Safdia said that Cato’s platform improvements provide users with more context to their network and data. “Network managers are spending a lot of time diagnosing problems. This makes it easier,” he said.

Cato secured $200 million in funding earlier this year to help it further develop and scale its cloud-based SASE platform. The funding was Cato’s largest round to date and was led by private equity firm Lightspeed Venture Partners with contributions from previous investors Greylock, Aspect Ventures/Acrew Capital, Coatue, Singtel Innov8 and Cato Networks co-founder and CEO Shlomo Kramer.
